Flexible In-house Assistance
  1. Flexible In-house Assistance

    Calling all in-house lawyers!

We recognise the challenges faced by in-house lawyers and the need for flexibility when sourcing external legal support to get the best and most cost effective results. We work daily with in-house counsel on a huge range of issues, from providing detailed specialist advice on a complex regulatory project to dealing quickly with ad-hoc queries.

Whether you are a large legal team with its own resources or the sole counsel in an organisation we can provide the support you require at the right cost.

    Who we are

We have a strong team of technology and commercial lawyers, and most of us have worked in-house.  We pride ourselves on our ability to construct the bespoke documents and deals that are really required.

We have a huge amount of experience spread across a wide variety of sectors so we are familiar with work in technology, logistics and distribution, healthcare & life sciences, media, food & drink, manufacturing, retail, clean tech, sport, charities … you name it we may well have worked in that area at some point.  We love the law so are happy to address those thought provoking legal issues that may come across your email from time to time such as can we terminate the contract, how do I get a framework contract in place, are we a processor or controller of personal data or how can I limit our liability most effectively.

Our team has within it data protection, competition, regulatory and franchising specialists to support our work, and of course is able to call on the rest of the firm for input on specialist areas such as TUPE and IP.

What we can deliver to you

We offer flexible assistance to in-house lawyers.  If you want us to lead a project then we can lead; if you want us to manage the project we can use our project management skills or if you simply want us to provide a first draft starting point, finesse a template or negotiate or attend a meeting with a customer at the last minute we are able to flex to this approach.

Whatever the job, we will work to your timetable, taking on board your specific internal and external pressures, and in line with your expectations and culture. We understand these factors and work hard to deliver concise, pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice which can be easily understood and disseminated within the business without re-engineering.

We will work collaboratively with you on implementation solutions, to solve operational problems such as compiling databases, dealing with volumes of contract reviews or completion of numerous standard documents like NDA’s.

Where there is no in-house team, you might want us to perform an “acting GC” role where we directly support the business and also work with senior management to ensure they have oversight of how legal issues are being managed.

    Trusted Advisor

We really value the long term relationships we have with our commercial clients and so you can have confidence that your commercial matters will be treated with the utmost importance.

We are proud to be the trusted advisor you turn to for all sorts of issues: interviewing candidates for the in-house team, helping with the budgeting process, sharing your highs (and lows) on deals, being a sounding board for your risk concerns or simply providing access to documents and know-how in a hurry.  Our aim is to:

    • understand your business aims and its commercial drivers
    • provide a pragmatic legal sounding board
    • help to manage legal risk
    • support and help develop the in-house team
    • support the resourcing and the recruitment process, including help with interviewing, job specifications and creatively deal with headcount freezes
    • be an “extension of the in-house team”

    Pricing

We understand the need for pricing certainty and responsiveness so offer:

    • fixed fees
    • flexible retainers
    • secondment rates
    • volume discounts
    • pricing (and staffing/overall approach) that reflects your view of the risks involved for your business

Please do get in touch with us if you wish to discuss how we might help you.
