Polluter Pays Principle: Liability for Environmental Damage - a new paper for the European Commission

Stevens & Bolton selected to support the evaluation of the EU Environmental Liability Directive

We are thrilled to announce that our environmental law consultant, Professor Dr Valerie Fogleman, has completed a study entitled “Polluter Pays Principle: Liability for Environmental Damage” for the European Commission.

The study examines and analyses application of the polluter pays principle to over 20 EU regulations and directives that directly or indirectly impose liabilities for environmental damage, including environmental offences, civil liability claims, liability for preventing and/or remediating pollution and other environmental damage, and liability for restoring biodiversity damage.

The paper can be found here.

The study is the ninth project that Valerie has authored or co-authored for the Commission on environmental liabilities (focusing on the Environmental Liability Directive) and insurance and other financial security for such liabilities.

Valerie’s eminence and expertise in environmental law continues to be recognised, including by the leading legal directories (Who’s Who Legal, Chambers UK and The Legal 500) which recommend her in the “Hall of Fame”.
